Routes of interest in Medina Sidonia

What to see near the Llanos de la Huerta?

Many call it "The Balcony of the Province", a protagonist of cultures throughout its history. It is an emblematic town in the region of La Janda. You can't leave Medina Sidonia without tasting its own designation of origin sweetmeat: Alfajor de Medina.

Some of its most popular festivals are:

  • The Living Nativity Scene of Medina Sidonia, in December.
  • Medina Sidonia Carnival, in February and March.
  • Pilgrimage of San Isidro Labrador, in May.
  • Medina Fair, in June.
  • Pilgrimage of San Fermín, in July.

What can we recommend you to see in Medina Sidonia?

Roman Archaeological Ensemble

These are hydraulic constructions from the 1st century AD. A total of 20 metres of underground galleries! Their main function was to provide sewage in Roman times. You can also visit the Roman road, sections of which were discovered in 1997.

Archaeological Ensemble of the Castle

At 380 metres above sea level and located in a unique enclave, we have this castle. The archaeological work carried out in the area indicates the existence of Roman military remains, the Arab fortress and the medieval castle. We recommend you to visit this enclave with marvellous views.

Santa María La Mayor Coronada Church

Religious monuments are not to be missed. We find the Church of Santa María La Mayor Coronada, a Gothic-Renaissance temple. Its altarpiece is a jewel, as is the carving of the Cristo del Perdón, by Pedro Roldán.

We recommend you visit the website of Turismo Medina Sidonia, Infinite City. You will have at your fingertips all the corners, places and monuments to visit, as well as organised guides.
